Habitat for Humanity is building three homes on a lot in downtown Brunswick this fall. Those interested in applying must attend an orientation meeting on June 12th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Habitat volunteers and staff will review the program and assist in filling out the application.
Applicants must currently live in Sagadahoc or Lincoln Counties or the towns of Brunswick, Topsham or Harpswell. They must earn less than 60% of the area median income (e.g. $37,700 for a family of four) and currently live in substandard housing. Once qualified, each adult in the household must also be willing to contribute 250 hours per adult of sweat equity building homes, working in the ReStore or in the administrative offices in Bath.
Habitat homes are financed with a very low interest mortgage in order to keep them affordable for those who cannot otherwise afford a home.
Anyone interested should contact Habitat at 386-5081 or at sharon@habitat7rivers.org to complete a prescreening questionnaire.
Message from Steve Peck
Habitat Family Selection Committee:
Dear Covenant Churches – First, thank you for recently helping us publicize our build in Bristol. We’ve selected a wonderful family and will be breaking ground soon.
This will be a busy year for us with two additional builds, one in Brunswick and another in Round Pond. The Brunswick build, a three-unit structure, will be a joint effort with the Brunswick Housing Authority with two of the units being awarded to Habitat families. We will again need your assistance in publicizing both projects. The Round Pond project will begin in August with the Brunswick effort beginning in June. Hence, we are asking if you would print the attached info about the Brunswick project in your Sunday bulletin on May 16, 23, and 30. If you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Sharon or Tara at the Habitat office, 386-5081. Many thanks for your continued support.
HABITAT PIE SALES — BY THE NUMBERS
8 pie sales
31 bakers from St. Andrew’s
96 pies from St. Andrew‘s
240 pies sold, total
$4500 total dollars raised
As you can see “by the numbers”, the monthly pie sales to support a Habitat home to be built in Bristol were very successful. Much of the success can be attributed to the wonderful participation by St. Andrew‘s parishioners who made a large share of the pies, bought pies, and donated moneys. A big Thank You to one and all.
The pie sales have been suspended for the winter, but I hope I can count on your support, and pies, again in the spring.
