Parish Life Committees

On February 11, 2009, fifteen parishioners gathered in the library to talk about what we all can do and what programs we would like to see put in place to help St. Andrew’s become an even more vital worshipping community. In a one hour meeting, each participant spoke briefly about why they had come, and talked about some of their thoughts and areas of interest.

Some recalled events which our church has held in the past that they would like to see revived, some had experience with programs at other churches, and some talked about needs here at St. Andrew’s that they would like to see addressed. Much interest was expressed in having more “all church” activities – social and educational events such as church suppers, forums, dinners in another’s homes, and breakfasts with activities for children and adults. Others were interested in exploring ideas for making ourselves more welcoming to new people – on the first visit, beyond, and also looking at how we can let all in this community know that they are welcome at St. Andrew’s.

Many spoke of the need to respond to those within out church family who are homebound, can no longer drive, or are in a time of particular difficulty. There was a lot of enthusiasm for renewed efforts in all these areas of ministry.

Our ideas and concerns seemed to fall into three distinct, but overlapping areas:

  1. Welcoming
  2. Hospitality and Fellowship
  3. Lay Pastoral Care

Those interested in working in each of these three areas will meet in smaller groups, and then we plan to come together again. These groups are going to require a supply of time, energy and leadership. Each will need at least one chair, preferably co-chairs, and the efforts of a number of volunteers.

We are just beginning this effort, and all are welcome to join in at any time. If you were not at the meeting and have an interest in becoming involved in any way, please let us know. We need to hear your thoughts; ideas, suggestions, feedback of any kind are always welcome.
