Ecumenical Diaper Bank

The Ecumenical Diaper Bank is supported by eight area churches in central Lincoln County: Water of Life Lutheran Church, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Damariscotta Baptist Church, Second Congregational Church of Newcastle, Midcoast Friends Meeting, United Methodist Church of New Harbor, and United Methodist Church of Round Pond.

The Diaper Bank’s goal is to assist infants and toddlers in low income families by providing a portion of the diapers they need each week, knowing that diapers are a necessity for their access to daycare and preschools; that inadequate diaper supplies can result in negative interactions, discomfort, and health issues for babies and young children; and that diaper needs are a financial burden on low income families not addressed by other programs. Food Stamps and WIC do not cover the purchase of diapers.

The Bank has now served 106 children from 90 families by the end of 2018, and gave out 13,200 diapers in 2018.

Diapers are distributed from the Ecumenical Food Pantry at the Second Congregational Church, 53 Main St., Newcastle, on Tuesdays from 9:30-11 a.m.

The Ecumenical Diaper Bank is funded from donations of diapers and funds from members of the eight area churches. Donations are always welcome! Size 6 diapers are the largest need. The Bank buys in bulk, and checks made out to the Damariscotta Baptist Church with “Diaper Bank” in the memo line can be mailed to Midcoast Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 714, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
